Telecare and NCN Health have partnered on a six-month trial until June 2023 to provide virtual healthcare services and offer relief to overburdened local GPs in Nathalia, Cobram, and Numurkah (NCN Health). Through its software platform, Telecare provides consultant physicians to NCN Health to support healthcare professionals treating patients on-site. Telecare’s virtual doctors are then able to assist with clinical matters around the hospital; this involves conducting video conference reviews with patients, managing admissions to hospitals, reviewing inpatients, ordering patient tests and managing patient medications. Hospital nurses are also able to access virtual doctors via phone or video at any time for additional support.
Our virtual physicians function to support regional health networks by alleviating the burden that exists on local practitioners. This has successfully led to regional GPs in the NCN area to no longer be burdened with weekend hospital rounds.
The program will be surveyed to gauge interest in expanding the program to other parts of Victoria, particularly small and under-resourced rural health districts.
